This piece borrows its title from a 1937 Federal Writers Project interview with Sol Webb, who was formerly enslaved by the artist’s great(x3) grandparents in Eastern Alabama. The artist, of mixed race descent herself, lays seductively upon the grave of “Mr. Ruff” and returning the viewer’s gaze with intensity.
